Book Critique of Lethal Passage
An issue since the birth of our massive nation, electric ray control and gasolene crime has plagued our homes with death. But is gun control the answer? Do guns kill people, or do people kill people? In the book Im claiming, Lethal Passage, author Erik Larson presents a story nearly a high school kid that is acquire bullied, and decides to go out and buy a gun to get revenge. Im using this book as a alternative to write about gun control. Larson is a former source for the Wall Street Journal and Time magazine and keep mum contributes articles to them. Larson has taught non-fiction writing at San Francisco State, the Johns Hopkins Writing Seminars, and the University of Oregon. He has spoken to audiences from semivowel to coast and wrote four other books; The Naked Consumer, Isaacs Storm, The gall in the White City, and Thunderstruck. I have non read the other books, but Lethal Passage gives you ideas about how squashy guns get out on the street, what kind of things was done with the gun before the next person gets it, and how easy it is to acquire a gun. Larson also brings up different problems with the NRA (National Rifle Association) and the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms).




Larsons admission of the book was a short summary of how the character Nicholas Elliot was getting bullied in school and how he felt about the situation. Nicholas ends up killing one teacher and wounding two teachers in the novel (Larson, 1995, pg.1).
In the beginning of the story Larson starts out by saying I am not opposed to guns, not even handguns, provided the owners acknowledge the monumental responsibility conferred by self-will; provided too that they invest the time necessary to become effective proficient users and to store those guns in a cabinet material enough to hold burglars and toddlers at bay, (Larson, 1995, pg. 15).
